Volunteers Insurance; too good to be true?

We thought last year that with the introduction of the voluntary insurance now all around us and this would be our volunteers also could rejoice, now is clear that there is still a lot unclear.

According to us are the biggest problems in these areas;

  • Each municipality may determine whether one likes it wants to close such insurance;
  • There can be determined what kind of insurance is coverage which may be different;
  • Given the different insurance is sometimes possible that one is insured in the municipality where the organization's business address, but if the insurance of the relevant municipality that is not supported, one must consider whether the municipality of the volunteer a volunteer insurance;
  • As an organization, sometimes also the director liability insured, sometimes not, and would make a separate insurance for close;
  • When activities can still be good that each activity is still a disaster insurance to close.

You see, too many uncertainties and ambiguities.

Here, we made a list as detailed as possible. First, the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations a document issued by the Frequently Asked Questions about the Volunteer Insurance (PDF) tries to answer. Because in this document frequently the answer is "this verscheelt per municipality, please ask your local" encounter, we have here the Volunteers Insurance Rheden bijgepakt only once. This is finally the time of this writing the business location of Salek Foundation. To save you the searching can be found here the Coverage Summary (PDF) of this insurance.

It goes too far to copy it all here, but some things do we get out there;

  • Volunteers from an insured municipality are ALWAYS insured. Volunteers from an insured municipality that volunteer work in another municipality, shall be insured on the policy of the municipality. In those cases where the other municipality is also insured for the voluntary activities or the organization for which the activities are carried out its own voluntary insurance, the volunteer through the 'work' council or voluntary organization are insured. Thus, a volunteer from an insured municipality is always assured!
  • Legal Liability for
  • Director Liability for Volunteers
  • Legal Liability for Transportation
  • Legal Assistance for Volunteers

This looks so all actually pretty good. From the first point remains to emerge, as the volunteer in his / her own municipality must also inform the municipality or such insurance. With your questions you can visit here include:

  • The municipality where you volunteer work
  • Ministry of Interior, Nina Timmermans, 070 to 426 9416
  • Association of Dutch Municipalities, Daniel Kruithof, 070 to 373 8494
  • Volunteers can also call the special Volunteers. Information Phone MOVISIE 0900 - 899 8600

Should you contact your local still get no response or one is not or not fully aware of the voluntary insurance scheme, you can create a report with www.lastvandeoverheid.nl.
