Last January 2011 presented the Scientific Council for Government Policy report: Less pretension, more ambition. (Source: WRR) The report does not our government see that the following researchers must now drastically different.
On no news, the world changes and circumstances change it. In addition, one learns constantly and we as a Foundation Salek will do our best to steer our organization where necessary to achieve even better results.
It's become a good report, but for us it is of course especially important what is said about education, and unfortunately that is not all positive. Or are they?
Some quotes from the report include:
Part of the investment in social sectors may in time also contributes to development, but the effect is very indirect, particularly since education in many countries in Africa not only of poor quality, but hardly consistent with local needs ...
In practice, the Netherlands ... a lot on education and health because it is already much did: much deeper reasoning usually not ...
The organization and development focus of change is not easy. Development to navigate between extremes. Domestically, there is a compelling call for quick results - the television reigns. Developing countries would benefit more from longer-term perspectives. That's a tough balancing act.
Meanwhile, the skepticism among the public about development, not only in the Netherlands. Several countries have recently released policy documents whatsoever which the development strategy being revised ...Netherlands has not given direction. The ODA policy, including part of the institutional world behind it, seems so unintentionally to be heading for a radical confrontation with those who now believe that development can be eliminated as well. This is not a sensible way.
At 26-11 showed a letter from the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. U. Rosenthal and The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. B. Knapen know:
The government aims for a fundamental review of the Dutch development, guided the WRR report Less pretension, more ambition. Development that makes a difference.
What does the Dutchman think?
When the Dutchman in the shoes of Knapen stand and must figure out how he would decorate his budget, he still wants the most money to spend on education and health. According to the IS line , almost half of the respondents these issues are high up in the list. Climate, environment and infrastructure are much less popular.
What conclusions can Salek draw? Salek Foundation has always strongly believed in giving good education. However, we go beyond that. We have it noted that the purpose of the improvement of the primary must be
1) that allows children a good education that fits in higher education and
2) The facilities must accommodate adult education such as focusing on local developments. For example, in an area of agricultural education would focus on agriculture should be given, etc.
I think that with these views still very good stand our ground. We are glad that our donors and prospective thinking with us, please leave your comments heard.
